The German Association for Public Medicine and Family Medicine said that mucus formed in the airways in healthy people is colorless and transparent and does not need coughing.
The association added that changing the color of the mucus associated with the cough to the yellow or yellow -green color is due to one of the following reasons:
- Acute bronchitis
- Bacterial pneumonia
- Satisfactory swelling in the lungs (bronchial expansion)
- Lung
- Advanced tuberculosis
- Cystic fibrosis
So you should consult a doctor to determine the real cause behind the yellow color of mucus associated with coughing, especially when it continues for days and if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as severe fever, chest pain and shortness of breath.
