Many of us view the beginning of the year as an opportunity to make plans and make decisions that will make our lives better, and we may become exhausted by the challenge of following through on these decisions and working to ensure their continuity. But aside from the challenges and difficulties, what if we worked on the principle of “a constant little is better than a discontinuous lot” and were keen to take small, steady steps that would give the person the progress he aspires to, even if it was slow?

A group of experts shared with the British newspaper The Independent some tips for small steps towards achieving big goals related to health and happiness, which we will pass on to you.

Tip 1: Go outside for 15 minutes

The cold weather makes the warmth of the house tempting, but be careful, going out every day is good for the body and mind.

Second tip: Take the stairs

One simple and effective way to boost heart health is to take the stairs instead of using the elevator. “This simple habit improves cardiovascular fitness,” says Dr Farhan Shahid, consultant interventional cardiologist at Harborne Hospital in the UK.

Third tip: Practice daily breathing exercises

Incorporate daily breathing exercises into your routine, explains Helen Wells, psychotherapist at Down Health and Rehabilitation Center in Thailand: “The 4-7-8 breathing technique is a great technique: inhale quietly through your nose for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds, then exhale.” Slowly through your mouth for 8 seconds. This practice calms the mind and reduces anxiety.

Tip 4: Carry a water bottle with you at all times

Carrying a water bottle everywhere will help you remember to drink water, thus ensuring that you drink enough water.

Fifth tip: Do 5 minutes of stretching exercises daily

Stretching exercises can increase flexibility and improve the mobility of your joints. This can help you move more freely and be better able to do daily activities. The flexibility you gain from stretching may protect you from injury.
