The General Authority for Customs confirmed that all travelers, when entering or leaving the State of Qatar, should adhere to the procedures that must be followed when possession of cash currencies or tools that can be traded for its holder, or precious metals such as gold, or precious stones, if their value is equal or exceeds 50 thousand Qatari riyals (equivalent to approximately 13.700 US dollars).
The implementation of this system comes in implementation of the provisions of Law No. (20) of 2019 and Cabinet Resolution No. (41) of 2019 issuing its executive regulations. This came in response to a traveler’s complaint about the confiscation of generous stones in his possession.
The authority said in a statement through its official accounts on social media: “In response to what was circulated on social media platforms about the complaint of one of the travelers coming to the state and related to the confiscation of gemstones that were in his possession, the Customs General Authority would like to clarify the following:
The General Customs Authority is responsible for implementing the customs declaration of travelers, in implementation of the Anti -Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Law No. (20) of 2019 AD and its executive regulations issued under Cabinet Resolution No. (41) of 2019.
The statement added: «According to the aforementioned law, all coming travelers or departures must acknowledge currencies or tools that can be traded for their holders, precious metals, or gemstones in their possession if their value is equal or more than 50,000 Qatari riyals or equivalent in other currencies, by filling the approved declaration form.
The statement also stated: “The commission confirms that the traveler did not commit to disclosing his gem -in possession when entering the country, which is an explicit violation of the laws and customs instructions applied in the state, and displays unauthorized materials for reservation in accordance with legal procedures.”
The authority also expressed its complete keenness to implement the laws in a transparent transparency, while ensuring that the procedures for traveling to all travelers are facilitated, and it also called on everyone to adhere to the regulations and instructions to avoid any violations that may affect the speed of their entry procedures or their exit from the state.
The General Authority of Customs announced the mandatory mobilization of the customs declaration form for the coming and departing travelers from the state’s lands, for those who had cash currencies, valuable jewelry or financial tools that are subject to its holder of their value or more than 50 thousand Qatari riyals.
The customs declaration form is filled upon arrival at the airport, any customs port, or through the website of the General Authority of Customs.
The materials to be recognized
Currencies: Qatari currencies or other foreign currencies.
-The financial tools that can be traded are the tools in the form of a document for its holder, such as tourist checks, trading tools, including checks, ear bonds, payment orders of all kinds, and incomplete tools, including checks, ear bonds, and signed payment orders.
Precious metals such as: gold, platinum silver and other precious metals.
-gemstones such as: diamonds, emeralds, rubies, exhale, pearls, and others.
A false acknowledgment
Providing incorrect information about the value of the currency or tools that are traded to its holder, minerals or precious stones, which are being transferred, or providing incorrect information related to the approval or by the customs authorities, and this includes not submitting the declaration as required.
Penalties
The authority stated through its official website that refraining from submitting the declaration, providing false information or refusing to provide additional information to the customs authorities about the source of the currency or financial tools that can be traded for its holder, precious metals or precious stones offered to the penalties that may reach imprisonment for a period not exceeding three years or fines that are not less than 100,000 Qatari riyals and not exceeding 500,000 Qatari riyals or twice the value of the money transferred, whichever is more in addition to reserving those funds.
