The International Air Transport Federation (IATA) has issued global demand data for travelers for the month of June 2025, which showed 2.6% growth compared to June 2024, and the total capacity increased, measuring the number of seats available per kilometer by 3.4% on an annual basis, while the load coefficient in June reached 84.5%.
Experts said that this increase is an indication of achieving records in the number of travelers during the summer season this year, especially with the increase in tourism performances and festivals that began to spread in many countries.
The international travel demand increased by 3.2% compared to June 2024. The capacity increased by 4.2% on an annual basis, and the load factor reached 84.4% (-0.8 percentage points compared to June 2024).
As for the local demand, it increased by 1.6% compared to June 2024. The capacity increased by 2.1% on an annual basis. The load factor was 84.7% (-0.4 percentage points compared to June 2024).
Commenting on these statistics, Willie Walsh, Director General of the International Air Transport Federation «IATA) said:“ In June, the demand for air travel grew by 2.6%. This is a slower pace than what we have seen in the previous months, and reflects the turmoil caused by the conflict in the Middle East. With the delay in the growth of the demand for capacity by 3.4%, the load factors decreased by 0.6 percentage points from its highest historical levels. However, at 84.5% globally, load factors are still very strong. With modest growth in the capacity of 1.8% in August flight schedules, the load factors during the northern Europe are unlikely to move away from the highest historical levels.
Middle East region
Regionalism, airlines in the Middle East witnessed a decrease in demand by 0.4% on an annual basis. The capacity increased by 1.1% on an annual basis, and the load coefficient reached 78.7% (-1.2 degrees Celsius compared to June 2024). The current conflicts in the region in particular affected traffic on the roads heading to North America (-7.0% on an annual basis) and Europe (-4.4% on an annual basis).
As for the airlines in the Asia Pacific region, they achieved an increase in demand by 7.2% on an annual basis. The capacity increased by 7.5% on an annual basis, and the load coefficient reached 82.9% (-0.2 Celsius compared to Pionio 2024).
Increase in European demand
While European airlines witnessed an increase in demand by 2.8% on an annual basis. The capacity increased by 3.3% on an annual basis, and the load coefficient reached 87.4% (-0.4 percentage points compared to Pionio 2024).
North America airlines witnessed a decrease in demand by 0.3% on an annual basis. The absorptive capacity increased by 2.2% on an annual basis, and the load factor reached 86.9% (-2.2 degrees Celsius compared to the month of June 2024). As for the airlines in Latin America, they witnessed an increase in demand by 9.3% on an annual basis. The capacity increased by 11.8% on an annual basis. The load coefficient reached 83.3% (-1.9 percentage points compared to the month of June 2024).
African airlines have witnessed a decrease in demand by 0.3% on an annual basis. The capacity increased by 0.3% on an annual basis. The load coefficient reached 74.6% (-0.5 percentage points compared to the month of June 2024). The decrease in the load factor in Africa may be attributed to increasing competition from European and Middle Eastern airlines.
