The National Planning Council organized the “Summer Camp of Data” event, in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports, Youth and the Qatari Scientific Club, with the participation of 125 students during the period from 23 to 27 August, and the winning teams were honored in the first three places of the two categories of the competition: secondary and university students (from 15 to 22 years).
The ceremony included final shows of the qualifying teams to the final stage, where the participants presented the details of their projects that they designed to find realistic solutions that are in line with the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The first place in the category of high school students, the “Mesaieed” team, won a project on the use of solar energy in homes to reduce the drain of natural gas, and contribute to the transformation towards renewable energy sources and achieve sustainable development. And in the second place, “Smissima” team, on the project to provide solutions to avoid wasting water, and offered some databases that can contribute to raising awareness of this vital issue. While the third place won the “Al -Sadd” team, on a project on the number of students with disabilities and the number of employees allocated to them.
In the category of university students, the Tamkeen team won first place on the project of establishing a platform for people with special needs aimed at reducing gaps in job opportunities compared to their peers. The “Al -Khor” team won the second place on a project that analyzes the national databases to determine the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions and electricity consumption, and to provide visions that help integrate renewable energy sources, and apply procedures that limit the carbon footprint of the State of Qatar. While the third place was the share of the “Reginald” team, on a project that analyzes import and export activities in Qatar using the symbols of the coordinated system, and linking them to the carbon dioxide database, to enable accurate and directed environmental analyzes.
Mrs. Maha Rashid Al -Mutawi, Director of National Data Affairs, also gave that the camp comes within a series of periodic initiatives and events organized by the National Statistics Center, with the aim of enhancing the spirit of innovation and encouraging young people to develop the skills of statistical analysis and artificial intelligence, and harness the strength of data to support the Qatari economy.
Al -Mutawi said: “The summer data camp represents an important step towards preparing a new generation capable of understanding the language of numbers, analyzing data, and turning data into tools for development and innovation. We believe that the future of Qatar depends on the development of young minds and enabling them with the tools of digital transformation to be active in building the country and contributing to achieving its ambitious vision.
Since the registration door was opened in early August, approximately 150 participants have advanced, 125 of whom succeeded in joining the camp. After distributing 9 groups of the school category and 7 universities groups, accompanied by expert guides, the competition started, according to criteria, clear for arbitration and victory.
