Officials this week said the cities affected by the latest epidemic of Ebola in the Congo set up checkpoints to reduce the movement of the population, due to a slight rise in the number of injuries at a time when relief workers warned of lack of funding.

Last week, the Ministry of Health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo announced the first outbreak of Ebola in the country 3 years, with 28 cases of suspicions and 15 deaths. This is the first outbreak in the Kasai region since 2008.

A statement issued by the governor of the Kasai region revealed – on Monday – that the first injury was recorded in the Bulab region in Kasai, placed under the quarantine, and multiple checkpoints were held in the area to prevent residents from entering or leaving.

“The problem is that we are afraid that the movement of the population from Bulab will lead to the transmission of the infection to other societies,” François Mingapinspind are the administrative official of the Mukaa area, which includes Bulab, told Reuters on Tuesday.

Mingapinsgean indicated that 51 cases of suspects and 18 deaths were recorded, while the latest statement issued by the Ministry of Health in Kinshasa revealed that there were 32 cases of suspects, 20 confirmed cases and 16 deaths.

The World Health Organization said – last week – that the Congo has a store of treatments along with two thousand doses of (Irfibo) vaccine, which will be sent to Casai to vaccinate mixers and health workers.
