Researchers have warned that women who take a common weight to lose weight during childbearing age may not realize the risks associated with them during pregnancy.

The new study revealed that most Australian women of childbearing age, who were prescribed for the GLP-1 Receptor Agonists- drugs that are increasingly used to lose weight such as Ozmak- do not use effective prevention methods, despite the risks known during pregnancy.

The study was conducted by researchers from the Australian University of Flinders, and their results were published in the Australian Medical Journal on September 1, and the Yurrick Alert website was written about.

A previous review of animal studies from the University of Amsterdam has linked exposure to the GLP1 hormone during pregnancy with low fetus growth and skeletal abnormalities, and despite the limited human data, the potential risks are still concerned.

The study analyzed the data of more than 1.6 million women between the ages of 18 and 49 years, who returned public clinics between 2011 and 2022.

Of the 18,000 women, the GLP1 receptors described for them for the first time during that period, reported only 21% using contraceptives.

The Natural GLP1 receptors were originally developed to manage type 2 diabetes, and gained wide popularity thanks to their effects in curbing appetite and weight loss, as the study found that most prescriptions are now spent for non -diabetes women.

“We are witnessing a widespread use of these drugs among women of childbearing age, but there is no evidence that contraceptives are considered part of routine care, these drugs can be very useful, but they are not free of risk, especially during pregnancy,” says the main researcher and the pharmacist, associate professor of the Faculty of Medicine and General Health Luke Gerzekoviak.

The study found that 2.2% of women were pregnant within 6 months of the start of the treatment of GLP1 receptors, with the highest pregnancy rates between younger women with diabetes, and between non -diabetes women in the early thirties.

Women with PCOS were twice more vulnerable to pregnancy, and this indicates that weight loss may improve fertility, even if not intended.
