The National Diabetes Institute in Qatar launches the second session of the Certificate of Management and Care of Obesity

The National Institute for Diabetes, Obesity and metabolic diseases of the Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar announced the launch of the second session of the Obesity Management Certificate and Care of Obesity Patients, as part of its commitment to enhance the capabilities of national health care cadres to deal with obesity as one of the most prominent health challenges faced by community members.

The course started on September 20 -according to a statement issued by the Hamad Medical Corporation that arrived in “Al -Jazeera Health” and will continue for 7 months with the participation of medical cadres in the specialties of endocrine, obesity and surgery, and therapeutic nutrition. It aims to develop medical competencies and expand the scope of multidisciplinary care, through a strategic partnership between the Hamad Medical Corporation, the Ministry of Public Health and the Primary Health Care Corporation.

For her part, Dr. Dhabiya Al -Muhannadi, Director of the National Institute of Diabetes, Obesity, metabolism and head of the endocrine department at Hamad Medical Corporation, said that obesity “is a chronic and complex disease that requires an integrated response and contribute to integrating prevention and treatment efforts in the primary care system, as well as enhancing coordination between all levels of care in ensuring patients reaching early treatment interventions, continuity of support And long -term care. “

The launch of the second session of the program comes as one of the leading projects emanating from the national action plan for obesity, diabetes and risk factors that can be adjusted within the National Health Strategy 2024-2030, which the National Institute for Diabetes, Obesity and metabolism plays a pivotal role in its implementation as an essential arm of the National Diabetes Committee.

For his part, Dr. Turki Al -Ahbabi, Head of obesity medicine at the National Institute of Diabetes, Obesity and metabolic diseases, and deputy head of the scientific and planning committee for the course, explained that the program “aims to redesign care paths and improve medical referral mechanisms, in addition to setting a follow -up framework to measure the results and treatment experiences for both patients and doctors alike, which contributes to the development of an integrated model of care that extends from preventive interventions and lifestyle to obesity surgeries So that the patient gets optimal treatment in time.

In turn, Dr. Mohamed El -Sherif, Consultant Endocrinology and Obesity at the National Institute for Diabetes, Obesity and metabolism, and the head of the scientific and planning committee for the course, indicated that this session was designed to accommodate a sufficient number of health cadres from various parties and departments at the Hamad Medical Corporation, the Primary Health Care Corporation and the special medical sector to ensure the achievement of extensive participation and follow -up of a multidisciplinary approach. Participants will complete an accredited educational curriculum for continuous professional development over a period of 7 months, which includes 42 credit hours of the first category and two accredited hours of the third category. The course includes workshops that will be held at the Al -Sadd Health Center, virtual training lectures accredited by the World Obesity Federation, and clinical training under the supervision of experts in the institute’s excellence centers.

The course of the course provides more than 50 faculty experts in the fields of endocrine, obesity, obesity surgery, therapeutic nutrition, and nutrition, which provides participants with practical skills that they can apply directly to patient care. It will be concluded with a graduation ceremony in May 2026.
