The Qatar Free Zones Authority has entered into a strategic partnership with Qatar Airways. This partnership will support Qatar Airways’ aviation system, contributing to expanding its aircraft fleet and enhancing its operational capabilities.
The agreement aims to enhance the infrastructure of the State of Qatar and support its competitive capabilities as a global center in the fields of aviation and logistics services. This partnership will drive economic growth by establishing a complex specialized in aviation services in the Ras Bufontas Free Zone, to provide maintenance services, support the expansion of Qatar Airways’ global fleet and enhance its efficiency.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani, CEO of the Qatar Free Zones Authority, and Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, CEO of Qatar Airways Group.
The agreement includes a gradual partnership plan that begins with the development of a specialized center in the field of maintenance, inspection and repair (MRO) of auxiliary power units in the Ras Bufontas Free Zone, followed by the development of additional specialized technical sites and facilities, in addition to establishing a customs-free corridor linking the free zone to Hamad International Airport and Hamad Port. Qatar Airways will offer shipping privileges to companies operating in the free zones, and will invite its partners and suppliers, including international companies in the aviation sector, to establish their operations in the free zones in Qatar.
His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani, CEO of the Qatar Free Zones Authority, said: “The cooperation agreement with Qatar Airways falls within our plans and strategies aimed at strengthening the position of the State of Qatar as a leading center for logistics and aviation services. We are confident that, through the integration of expertise and capabilities of both the Qatar Free Zones Authority and Qatar Airways, we will be able to develop an integrated platform that attracts more international companies to establish centers for supply chains and aircraft maintenance, inspection and repair services in the State of Qatar, which contributes directly to the country’s march towards sustainable economic development, in line with the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy of the State of Qatar 2024-2030.”
In turn, M. said: Badr Mohammed Al Meer, CEO of Qatar Airways Group: “We are pleased to conclude a cooperation agreement with the Qatar Free Zones Authority to develop modern facilities, nurture local expertise and benefit from it in the field of aircraft maintenance, inspection and repair services.
