A 45-year-old woman from western Canada found a simple and unexpected way to boost her happiness, mental clarity, and energy levels by jumping 50 times a day.
The woman began her jumping journey on September 19 after watching a video she found by chance while browsing the Internet.
She told the American magazine Newsweek, “I saw a man mention that jumping 50 times for 30 days will change your life. I thought, why not? I’m already trying to make changes for myself, so I tried it.”
- Does jumping really change a person’s mental and physical health?
- Is it an experience worth having?
- What are the costs involved in practicing this sport?
Jumping is considered a type of anaerobic exercise because it involves rapid bursts of energy in which the body does not depend on oxygen alone.
Other anaerobic exercises include sprinting, weightlifting, and high-intensity interval training.
Dr. Shazia Alarakha explains, according to Medicine Net, that jumping has many advantages, including that it does not require any equipment, and therefore it can be part of a home exercise routine.
Excellent burning
Jumping is an excellent calorie burner, and helps you utilize your glycogen (stored carbohydrates) and fat reserves.
The number of calories burned while jumping depends on the person’s weight, speed, and duration of the exercise.
On average, a person weighing 68 kilograms who performs jumping exercises at a slow pace burns about 100 calories in 10 minutes.
The calories burned increase with speed, duration and weight, so regular jumping helps to get rid of excess weight and maintain physical fitness.
Jumping is a type of weight-bearing exercise, where the body bears its own weight while jumping, and weight-bearing exercises help build bone density, so jumping is one of the best exercises to improve bone health, as it helps build bone density, making it stronger and healthier.
Bone density, or bone mineral density, refers to the strength of bones, as it measures the various minerals contained in them.
Jumping improves balance and coordination between muscles, and is a great way to achieve functional fitness, which is the fitness we need in daily life.
