Dry hair represents a problem that worries many women, as the hair appears brittle, frizzy, and dull, in addition to being difficult to comb and style.
The German magazine “Freundin” explained on its website that when the sebaceous glands in the scalp do not produce a sufficient amount of sebum, the hair lacks a natural protective layer and does not receive sufficient hydration, which leads to dry hair.
The fashion and beauty magazine added that dry hair has several causes, including genetic predisposition, environmental factors, and hormonal changes, in addition to a lack of important nutrients.
Washing rate
Regarding how to take proper care of dry hair, Freundin explained that dry hair should not be washed frequently, otherwise it will be exposed to more dryness, as shampoo and other care products cause the removal of the natural protective sebum from the scalp and hair, which exacerbates the problem.
Instead, it is sufficient to wash dry hair once a week, using a gentle shampoo that is free of sulfates or silicones, while washing the hair with cold water closes the hair pores and gives it a natural shine.
Moisturizing
It is also important to take care of dry hair using oils rich in moisturizing substances such as jojoba, olive, and almond, while taking into account a balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and biotin (avocado, nuts, salmon, and whole grains) or taking additional nutritional supplements.
You should also drink enough water to enhance hair hydration from within.
Overheat protection
It is also important to protect dry hair from excessive heat, since frequent use of styling devices such as hair dryers, flat irons and curling irons can severely weaken the hair’s surface, leading to more dry hair and may also cause problems such as split ends.
Instead, you should change your hair styling routine and let it air dry. If you want to use a hair dryer, you should set it to a lukewarm temperature or use a modern hair dryer that uses less heat for drying and styling.
It is also necessary to apply heat protective lotion, as it seals the hair’s outer layer and helps reduce potential damage such as breakage and burns.
