  • Lack of exposure to sunlight in winter has a negative effect on the hormonal system. It causes a deterioration in the mood, which increases the risk of depression, which in turn increases the body’s sensitivity to pain, which then worsens back pain.
  • Cold also plays a role, albeit a slight one, as muscles become more stiff and may spasm at low temperatures.

Measures to combat back pain

To combat back pain during the winter, the German orthopedist recommended taking the following measures:

  • Practice physical activities, such as walking, cycling, and Pilates, in addition to climbing the stairs instead of using the elevator.
  • Warmth also helps relieve back pain, as it relaxes the muscles and improves blood circulation. The body can be warmed by taking a warm bath or sauna bath, or massaging the back with a hot water bottle or hot water bottle.

Consult a doctor

In any case, a doctor should be consulted if the pain is very severe or if it continues for more than 4 to 6 weeks.
