Apple has officially launched an emergency update bearing the number iOS 26.5.1 to address a technical problem that caused the failure of wired charging for some iPhone devices when the battery level dropped to very low levels.
The company explained that the defect leads to the system failing to recognize the charging cable when the battery reaches very low levels, noting that the update targets exclusively all models of the iPhone 17 series, in addition to the new iPhone Air. The size of the update ranges between 12 and 17 GB, depending on the device model.
Apple confirmed that the large size of the update is due to making fundamental modifications to the low-level system software (Firmware) responsible for power management and controlling the connection ports within the electronic chip, with the aim of radically addressing the problem while maintaining battery efficiency and long-term performance stability.
This quick fix comes a few days before the start of the annual WWDC 2026 developer conference, which is expected to announce the “iOS 27” system.
The company advised users of affected devices to install the update as soon as possible by going to Settings, General, Software Update, in order to ensure the continued operation of the device and avoid any problems related to charging or power outages.
