Apple announced that it will accelerate the release of its upcoming security updates for programs that were previously scheduled to be included in a new version of the iOS operating system, making them available to users earlier than usual, in response to security concerns associated with artificial intelligence.
The company stated in a statement that it is adapting to reality in view of the ability of artificial intelligence to accelerate the development of malicious hacking tools, which requires that Apple reduce the time period between announcing updates and their arrival to users. This change represents a noticeable shift in Apple’s traditional approach, which was based on integrating fixes for security vulnerabilities with major versions of its programs, in recognition that artificial intelligence reduces the period of time that attackers need to exploit known vulnerabilities.
Usually, if cybersecurity experts do not discover a hacking campaign targeting a previously unknown software vulnerability, Apple releases security updates in conjunction with the transition from one version of the iOS system to another, such as moving from the current version 26.5 to the next planned version 26.6.
During this period, developers and other users test the new version to discover and fix problems before its official launch.
“Apple” explained that instead, the company decided to make the latest round of security updates available to all users before the full launch of iOS 26.6, and said: “Although there is no evidence of exploitation of the newly fixed vulnerabilities, the time period between the announcement of the fixes
“Security and its access to users’ phones must become shorter.”
