Qatar Chamber discussed with Malaysian officials and businessmen ways to enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, and activate the joint Qatari-Malaysian Business Council, on the sidelines of the Chamber’s participation in the World Halal Summit in the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The Qatar Chamber delegation to the summit was headed by Dr. Mohammed bin Johar Al Mohammed, member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and head of the Qatari side of the Qatari-Malaysian Joint Business Council, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Salah bin Mohammed Al Surur, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Malaysia.
On the sidelines of the summit, Dr. Mohammed bin Johar Al Mohammed met with Mr. Mohammed Raziq Hussein, head of the Malaysian side in the Qatari-Malaysian Joint Business Council.
During the meeting, they discussed trade and economic cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them, in addition to mechanisms for activating the joint Qatari-Malaysian Business Council, which contributes to enhancing communication and cooperation between the business communities in the two countries.
The two parties agreed on the importance of holding periodic meetings and meetings of the Council, and establishing practical mechanisms to follow up on areas of cooperation and investment and trade opportunities of common interest, in a way that contributes to increasing trade exchange and encouraging mutual investments between Qatar and Malaysia. This is consistent with the basic objectives of the Council of promoting trade and investment and building a communication network between businessmen in the two countries.
The two sides stressed the importance of the Council playing a more effective role in introducing the investment opportunities available in both countries, bringing Qatari and Malaysian businessmen and companies closer together, facilitating the establishment of partnerships, commercial alliances and joint projects, in addition to exchanging information about the business environment, legislation, investment incentives and promising sectors, and organizing meetings and events that bring together business owners from both sides.
Dr. Mohammed bin Johar said that the Qatar Chamber is keen to support and activate the Council as it is an important platform to enhance cooperation between the Qatari private sector and its Malaysian counterpart, noting that there are promising opportunities that business owners in the two countries can explore and benefit from.
He stressed the importance of intensifying mutual visits and business meetings, leading to the establishment of new trade and investment partnerships that serve the economies of the two countries.
Dr. Mohammed bin Johar Al Mohammed also met with Mr. S. Jay Shankar, Executive Vice President of the Malaysian Foreign Trade Development Corporation, to discuss the role of the private sector in developing trade exchanges between the two countries, in addition to the importance of strengthening communication between chambers of commerce, export development institutions and business owners, which contributes to exploring more opportunities available to Qatari and Malaysian companies.
Al-Mohammad held several meetings with heads and representatives of Malaysian companies, especially in the food industries sector, where he reviewed the investment climate and opportunities in Qatar, calling on Malaysian companies to invest in Qatar and take advantage of the available investment opportunities and investment-inducing advantages.
Al-Mohammed noted the distinguished economic and trade relations between Qatar and Malaysia, stressing that there is great potential to expand cooperation between the private sector in the two countries, especially in the food industries, halal products, logistics services, technology, investment, and others.
