Many people believe that chicken soup is useful in treating a cold. How true is this belief?
To answer this question, the Health Knowledge Foundation in Germany said that the effects of chicken soup have so far only been studied in the laboratory, and not on humans.
The foundation added that although there is evidence of an anti-inflammatory effect in the test tube, there is no evidence of its effectiveness in humans.
Dissolving mucus
The German Health Foundation explained that hot soup stimulates blood circulation in the tissues, which helps dissolve mucus and then drain it better.
For his part, German nutrition expert Ermengard Dexheimer explained that chicken meat contains a high percentage of zinc, which works to strengthen the immune system.
Adding some vegetables to chicken soup, such as leeks, celery, carrots, and onions, contributes to supplying the body with vitamin K, beta-carotene, and secondary plant substances that have an anti-inflammatory effect.
