With the advent of the blessed month of Ramadan, eating habits change and meals decrease, as fasting hours cause hunger that leads to eating large quantities of food at breakfast, which affects the health of the digestive system.

In an interview with Anatolia, the esoteric doctor, Dr. Mustafa Haj Hamid, gave advice to the fasting people to avoid falling into any health bumps, and also gave advice to patients during fasting.

Ramadan and cold weather

Haj Hamid started his speech by saying: We know that fasting is a healthy matter, “fasting, wake up”, but unfortunately for many patients and people instead of the month of Ramadan is an opportunity to restore the body and re -program it and avoid many food errors, we find them continuing wrong nutritional practices.

He added, “Ramadan in the winter month, and the cold month, and this has benefits. First, Ramadan in these days is short, and we are always afraid of Ramadan from the intense heat and thirst, which exposes the fasting person to the water interruption for a long time, causing drought, and losing fluids.”

He explained that fasting is easy and simple, and from here we emphasize the benefit of this month well.

Eating habits

Regarding the way to eat food and foods in Ramadan, the doctor stated that “recently there is a trend towards intermittent fasting, we can say that the month of fasting is the best opportunity to benefit from intermittent fasting, of course they differ only by taking fluids.”

“As long as the weather is cold and the hours of fasting are short, it can be described as intermittent fasting, which is a golden opportunity to benefit from this month, all fasting people should not be exaggerated breakfast.”

And he went on to say: Unfortunately, Ramadan turned into a kind of determination and a lot of all types and varieties of food, especially for breakfast, so I advise everyone that breakfast be a normal meal. “

Breakfast

On breakfast, Hajj Hamid said: “We always advise people that the meal be on two periods, and that the food be on the stomach gradually, as it starts with the cup of water, or perhaps two dates in order to give the body a kind of sugars.”

He continued: “We can eat soup (soup) and then it is better to stop food for a period of half an hour. During this period, the messages from the stomach to the brain have arrived that I took a quantity of food and I do not need more food.”

He pointed out, “Here a person can eat the main meal far from the insatiable, and he can benefit from this food, and the best is to postpone the basic meal until after Tarawih prayers.”

Carrings from the abundance of food

The doctor stressed that conflict and diversity of foods causes a kind of digestion problems, according to age and disease, but the most common thing that relates to the digestive system.

He continued, “A person can develop a kind of intestinal reflux as a result of the rapid fullness of the stomach. There is a lot of spices and pans, this is what irritates stomach ulcers, or the foods may be a reason for gases and blowing, so there must be moderation in foods.”

The perfect meal

On the appropriate meal in breakfast, the specialist said: “There are many studies and types of diets, but the best of them is the meals of the Mediterranean diet, and today we belong to this area.”

He explained: “In short, we divide the plate into two halves, half of the plate is from vegetables, and it is not only the cucumber and tomatoes (tomatoes), watercress and parsley, but all that is cooked from okra, molokhia, zucchini, eggplant, boiling, spinach, and mushrooms, all of these are vegetables.”

He continued: “The second half we divide into 3 sections, 20% of protein (meat, chicken, thickness, eggs, cheese, milk), and 20% of legumes and starches.”

He continued: “We have 10% for fruits, so we do not abound from them, and we do not multiply the juices, especially the abnormal gas juices, as they are sugars that raise the blood sugar rate quickly, and alert insulin, and a kind of increased desire for food occurs, so the person hungry quickly, and the obesity increases in this month.”

Suhoor meal

The doctor touched on the meal of suhoor: “As for suhoor, it should be according to the condition of the person and the patient so that we avoid the pans, spices and pickles, which means foods that contain excess salt so that there is no high pressure, or there is no dryness and loss of fluid.”

The best thing for suhoor is to eat proteins and vegetables, and we also do not increase sugars, according to the doctor.

Sweets

With regard to eating sweets and alternatives, Haj Hamid replied: “We cannot prevent sweets from eating, and here is very important and distributing food is important. We do not want to have an exaggeration in eating sweets.”

He added: “10% we mentioned that it is for fruits, and it also includes dates, honey and sweets, if a person wants to take a kind of sweets that can replace fruits and reduce starches, i.e. bread, rice, potatoes and pasta.”

He continued: “If the breakfast is vegetable with a protein like fish, for example, here it can eat something of sweets more than the quantity in normal days, but this should be done with a balance.”

He stressed that the sweets that we always want are fruits, localities, dates and honey, and fruits are better than sweets, especially white sugar.

Chronic diseases

On the fasting of people with chronic diseases, Haj Hamid said: “The patient must prepare for Ramadan a month or two, sugar and pressure diseases, thyroid gland, kidneys and liver, and the consultation should be directly from the attending physician.”

He added that there are some points that must be taken into account, for example, the number of hours of fasting, and the social situation, for example, unmarried who suffers from sugar or chronic disease and live alone, his commitment to food is not like someone who lives with his family.

He explained that “the age of a person is also important, and the medications he takes. For sugar diseases, there are cases that prevent the patient to fast with them, and if his sugar is more than 300, and if the cumulative sugar is more than 10, as well as a pregnant woman who uses insulin.”

And he showed that insulin doses can be controlled if a decline occurs during the day.

He continued, “Those who suffer from arterial pressure can most of them can fast, and whoever takes high pressure medications and a diuretic can be organized between breakfast and suhoor. For the thyroid gland, they can also take treatment an hour before suhoor.”
