Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Maher Shamiya, said that the northern Gaza Strip governorate has been subjected to systematic Israeli genocide for 15 days, causing catastrophic conditions there.
During his speech to Anadolu, Shamiya indicated that the Israeli army targeted, at dawn on Saturday, the three remaining hospitals in the North Governorate, adding that they are still partially operating despite this bombing.
He stated that the continued Israeli siege on this governorate caused a shortage of medicines, medical supplies, and fuel needed to operate the equipment inside the three hospitals.
Shamiya renewed his ministry’s demand for international institutions concerned with protecting hospitals and civilian facilities and sparing them from Israeli madness.
Targeting hospitals
The medical official said that the remaining three hospitals, Kamal Adwan, Indonesian (government), and Al-Awda (private), were subjected to Israeli bombing at dawn on Saturday.
He continued: This bombing exacerbated the humanitarian situation in the region.
He explained that hospitals continue to operate partially despite these Israeli attacks that directly targeted them.
Regarding Kamal Adwan Hospital, Shamiya said that the army targeted its upper floors with several shells, causing a complete power outage.
In addition, an Israeli drone targeted the hospital courtyard, killing a Palestinian and wounding two others, he said.
Shamiya continued, saying: The scene inside this hospital is horrific, as a state of panic and panic prevailed among the patients and the medical staff, especially among the 40 patients who were inside the hospital at the time of the attack.
He stated that the hospital’s capacity has completely reached its limit, with all departments, including intensive care and children’s nurseries, being full.
He pointed out that floor mattresses have been used in the maternity ward, which is undergoing renovation to receive more infected people.
As for the attack that targeted Al-Awda Hospital, Shamiya said that this hospital also suffered direct hits on the upper floors, without clarifying the nature of the targeting.
Speaking about the Indonesian hospital, Shamiya said that the Israeli vehicles penetrating the area destroyed the (main) electrical generator, causing a power outage, which in turn led to the death of two patients in the intensive care unit.
He continued: The army also imposed a tight siege on the hospital, which reinforces the urgent need to evacuate many serious cases.
Drug shortage
In his speech, Shamiya stressed that the three hospitals suffer from a severe shortage of medical staff, especially specialists in specialized surgeries, as there are only a few of them left to deal with the large numbers of infections.
He added: Hospitals also suffer from a severe shortage of medicines, medical supplies, and fuel needed to operate medical devices.
Shamiya pointed out that his ministry contacted the International Red Cross and international coordinators to convey a clear message demanding that hospitals be spared this Israeli madness.
He added: These facilities are civilian and have nothing to do with what is happening on the ground.
Shamiya appealed to the international community to put pressure to stop targeting hospitals, saying: We need everyone to raise their voice loudly and say enough of this madness, because these hospitals have absolutely nothing to do with what is happening on the ground.
