A joint project presented by Commerce with Hamad Bin Khalifa University Qatar obtains membership in the “International Trade” academic program.

The World Trade Organization announced the results of the new session of the academic membership program (WTO chair programme), to which more than 100 academic institutions from member countries applied.
Despite the intense competition among the candidates, the State of Qatar obtained membership in the program through a joint project presented by the Ministry of Trade and Industry through its office at the organization in Geneva, in cooperation with Hamad Bin Khalifa University, with the support of the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council, within the framework of supporting scientific research in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Qatari project aims to address issues related to industrial policies for digital development, and includes research on digital transformation and sustainability. The project also addresses the integration of artificial intelligence and the regulation of legitimate anonymous browsing on the Internet.
The WTO Academic Membership Program is an initiative aimed at developing academic curricula by promoting trade-related academic activities in universities and research institutions in developing and least developed countries. The program also seeks to enhance knowledge and understanding of the trade system among academics and policy makers by providing educational support to develop and deliver Training courses on trade policy and issues related to the World Trade Organization.
The program also seeks to enhance research on trade-related issues and raise awareness of the importance of trade cooperation by disseminating information related to international trade.
Academic institutions that hold membership in the WTO Academic Program receive financial, scientific and technical support for a period of four years in the areas of curriculum development, research and awareness activities. After the expiration of this period, the institutions remain part of the WTO Academic Program Network.
