The activities of the 2024 Women’s Handball Championship, organized by the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee in cooperation with the Qatar Handball Federation, concluded. The championship was held from August 20 to 26 at Court No. (1) of the Qatar Handball Federation in the Duhail area, and witnessed the participation of four teams: Qatar Club, Al Shaqab team, and the women’s and junior teams.
The women’s team won the championship title after defeating Qatar Club in the final match with a score of (29-18), thus winning the championship cup and gold medals. Qatar Club came in second place, while the junior team achieved third place after defeating Al Shaqab team with a score of (30-13), so Al Shaqab came in fourth place.
In the match results, the junior team defeated Al Shaqab with a score of (16-4), while Qatar Club defeated the women’s team with a score of (32-25) in the first round. In the second round, the junior team defeated Qatar Club with a score of (27-15). The women’s team also won a deemed victory over Al Shaqab team due to Al Shaqab team not completing the match on time. In the third round, Qatar Club defeated Al Shaqab with a score of (34-13), and the women’s team defeated the juniors with a score of (30-12).
At the end of the competitions, the winning teams were honored by Ms. Maha Al-Abdul Jabbar, Assistant Secretary of the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee, Ms. Amna Al-Qasimi, Executive Director of the Committee, and Ms. Maryam Bashir Al-Abdullah, Director of the Qatari Women’s Teams.
Ms. Maha Al-Abdul Jabbar expressed her pride in the outstanding level presented by the participating teams, stressing the importance of such tournaments in promoting and developing women’s sports in Qatar. She said: “We are proud of the great performance and high competitive spirit we witnessed. This tournament reflects the continuous progress in women’s sports, and we will continue to provide support and assistance to the teams and players in the future.”
She praised the great cooperation between the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee and the Qatar Handball Federation, noting that this fruitful cooperation played a major role in the success of the tournament. She added: “We are happy with the partnership with the Qatar Handball Federation, which reflects the spirit of cooperation and the common desire to promote women’s sports in Qatar.”
