Salazar: Cybersecurity, sustainability, and technology are the most prominent challenges for the sector
Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), stressed that the Middle East region occupies a pivotal position in the global aviation system, thanks to its strategic location and its growing role in connecting the continents, enhancing trade and tourism, and supporting economic development.
During his speech at the eighth meeting of Directors-General of Civil Aviation in the Middle East, hosted by Doha, Salazar said that the region has played an important role over centuries in linking societies, cultures and economies, while the aviation sector today continues to strengthen this role, as a bridge linking East to West and North to South.
He expressed his appreciation to the State of Qatar for hosting the meeting and the warm reception, praising the efforts of those who contributed to organizing this important regional event.
He explained that the global aviation sector is going through a phase of profound transformation, in light of the continued growth in demand for air transport, rapid technological development, changing passenger expectations, increasing environmental responsibilities, security challenges and cyber risks, in addition to the need to build qualified human cadres capable of keeping pace with the requirements of the sector.
He stressed that the common goal is to ensure the continued growth of the aviation sector, while maintaining the highest levels of safety, security, sustainability and accessibility to air transport services.
