Qatar Central Bank has announced a change in the fifth edition of the “Real” banknotes, in proportion to the laws in force in the State of Qatar.
The “Central” stated in a statement that the change includes the following: the official state logo, the Arab number, the date of issuance.
Qatar Central Bank noted that the previous version of the Qatari riyal for the fifth edition will remain in circulation, and this change will be applied to the rest of the currency categories at a later time.
Currencies circulated in Qatar
Before 1966, the currencies circulating in Qatar were those related to the pound sterling, such as Indian Ruba, and the Gulf Ruba. On March 21, 1966, Qatar and Dubai signed an agreement whereby Qatar and Dubai Criticists were established. When India has reduced the rupee exchange rate (including Gulf Roba) by 35%, Qatar and Dubai decided to use the Saudi riyal instead of the Gulf rupees temporarily until the issuance of its new currency. The new currency was issued on September 18, 1966, known as Real Qatar and Dubai, and its value was limited to 0.186621 grams of pure gold.
