In his speech during the meeting of the 135th session of the Council of the Union of Arab Chambers, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of Trade and Industry, stressed the importance of developing and strengthening cooperation between business sectors in our Arab world, and activating the role of the Arab private sector and improving its performance, in a way that benefits the economies of our countries. His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Industry pointed out that our Arab region has enormous potential, great wealth, diverse natural resources and advanced human potential, which qualifies it to occupy a prominent position on the map of the global economy, pointing out that the tireless efforts made by Their Majesties, Highnesses and Excellencies the Arab leaders in order to benefit from these wealth. Employing it to achieve Arab economic integration, achieve sustainable development, and fight poverty and unemployment, it will bear fruit through flexible economic policies in which the private sector plays a leading role.
His Excellency pointed out that our Arab region has many promising investment opportunities in various fields, especially in light of the presence of pioneering economic laws and Arab free zones, which provides greater opportunities to enhance economic integration, stimulate intra-trade, and create a sustainable and diversified Arab economy.
He added that achieving this requires the Arab private sector to play its desired role in the development process, in accordance with more flexible and effective economic policies, and through greater coordination and cooperation between the chambers of commerce and industry in the Arab countries, stressing that the State of Qatar welcomes all initiatives and programs that It would support and strengthen the position of the Arab private sector on the economic arena and enable it to exercise its desired role, through partnership between the public and private sectors.
His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Industry affirmed that the Qatari economy has achieved tremendous leaps over the past years, supported by the economic plans and strategies adopted by the State of Qatar to create a business environment attractive for investments. The major projects implemented by the state in preparation for hosting the Qatar World Cup 2022 have contributed to accelerating the economic diversification plans that the state seeks to achieve in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
He pointed out that the third national development strategy of the State of Qatar 2024-2030 aims to focus on priority sectors such as the metal industry with low carbon emissions and the integration of renewable energy sources to harmonize industrial consumption while taking into account environmental considerations. In turn, the main sectors identified within the third national development strategy provide the state with opportunities. It is promising, as it includes sectors such as industry, logistics, information technology, digital and financial services, food, agriculture, health, education, and other vital fields. To achieve these goals, investments amounting to $100 billion have been allocated in the local economy by the year 2030.
For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector, said during his speech at the meeting that the Arab private sector receives the attention of Arab countries because it is a pillar of economic and social growth and development, as well as for developing economic performance in light of regional and international changes, as well as for its role in Encouraging joint Arab action, pointing out that the role of the private sector extends to achieving an economic surplus from the standpoint of mutual benefit and rebuilding capital in its broad sense.
His Excellency also emphasized Arab economic integration and the role of the Arab private sector by contributing to joint Arab projects as well as meeting the needs of Arab civil society.
For his part, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Chamber, said that the agenda and files of this session include many important procedural and strategic topics, expressing his confidence in the ability of the esteemed Council to take appropriate decisions and actions regarding each of them.
