The French Football Federation intends to file a complaint with its international counterpart (FIFA) regarding racist chants by some Argentine national team players during their celebrations of the 2024 Copa America title.
The chants were heard during a live video posted on social media by Chelsea midfielder Enso Fernandes from inside his country’s team bus after they beat Colombia 1-0 after extra time in Miami on Sunday to win the Copa America.
Some players, including Fernandez, chanted a chant dating back to the 2022 World Cup, launched by Argentine fans after the final, which their team won against France on penalties, a chant targeting Kylian Mbappe and homophobic insults.
A source close to the French Federation told Agence France-Presse on Tuesday that the Federation intends to write to its Argentine counterpart and refer the matter to FIFA.
