Google announced that it has stopped developing the Ferrochrome project, which aimed to easily run the ChromeOS system on Android devices.
Although this project was promising and excited many users, the company later confirmed that it was only a “proof of concept” and would not turn into an actual feature on its smartphones or tablets, meaning that the project was for the purpose of showing practical evidence proving the improved capabilities of virtual operation. In Android system.
In a new update integrated into the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), Google clearly confirmed that it will not launch or maintain this project in the future.
Although Google officially stopped the project, it is still working on the Android Virtualization Framework on which this project was based, which opens the way for the possibility of reviving the idea in the future from other parties.
The project’s termination may be a disappointment to those who want to see a broader integration between Android and ChromeOS. However, it is still possible to run ChromeOS by default within the Android system, given the improvements made by Google in this regard, but it will require some manual modifications to make the system work smoothly.
Earlier this year, the Ferrochrome project emerged within Google as an ambitious project that enables Android devices, including the company’s Pixel phones, to run ChromeOS on them, using virtual operating technology (or Virtual Machines), which has become more advanced in Android.
