Google has announced the launch of a new feature called “Theft Detection Lock,” which aims to enhance the security of Android phones and protect them from theft. This feature provides advanced protection for users’ phones by using advanced technologies to monitor theft attempts and automatically lock the phone to protect personal data.
Theft Detection Lock uses a combination of sensors found in smartphones, such as the accelerometer and gyroscope.
These sensors analyze the data to gather accurate information about the phone’s movement, and if the system detects that the phone has been grabbed quickly, whether by the thief running, riding a motorcycle or driving a car, the Android operating system automatically activates the screen lock.
Google has started rolling out this new feature to Android users in Brazil, and it is expected to gradually expand to include all Android phone users around the world starting with the release of Android 10, and it is expected to reach more markets in the coming period.
The “Theft Detection Lock” feature is part of the package of features that Google presented at its IO 2024 developer conference, and the company confirmed that it will start providing these features to all users by the end of this year, with some of them being exclusive to users of the latest Android 15 version.
