Photo and video sharing platform Instagram has revealed that it has begun testing a new feature that is very similar to the Snap Maps feature.
According to Instagram, the new feature allows text and video updates to be posted on the map based on where the photos were taken, and the map is shared with friends where all their updates appear.
Users will have to choose a specific group of people to share their location with, such as “close friends or followers who follow them only,” Meta spokeswoman Christine Bai said.
“The new feature on Instagram is currently only available as a small test in a few markets, and the tool is optional and includes location sharing controls,” Pai added.
It is worth noting that the maps feature was first spotted in the development stage in February under the name /Friend Map/, then some pictures of the feature in use began to appear to the public, and the /Instagram/ service introduced the photos feature in 2012.
