The headquarters of the Arab Gulf Cup Federation in Doha witnessed the drawing of the draw for the Gulf Cup Championship for teams under 23 years of age, whose competitions Doha will host during the period from 4 to 16 December next, with the participation of Gulf teams, and the tournament is one of the most important tournaments for the age groups in the region.
The draw was conducted via video technology by Hamad Al-Hajri, head of the competitions department in the Federation, with the participation of representatives of the eight teams. Two groups in which the teams will compete have been revealed, in a version that represents an important fulcrum for the players who will make their way to the national teams.
Before drawing the lottery, Mr. Al-Hajri welcomed the participants and then explained its system, which took place according to the latest international classification of FIFA, where the Qatari team was placed at the head of the first group and Iraq at the head of the second group, then Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, then Kuwait and Yemen came in the classification. Al-Hajri confirmed that the teams are divided into two groups according to the lottery, and in each group there is a round of one round, and the first and second from each group qualify, with the first of the first group playing with the second of the second group and the first of the second group with the second of the first group. The two winners qualify for the final match of the tournament.
The draw was balanced in the two groups, and the first group included Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait, while the second group included Iraq, the Emirates, Oman, and Yemen.
The draw promises traditional confrontations with a special competitive nature, given the football history between the teams.
