The FIFA Referees Committee announced the appointment of Qatari international referee Khamis Al Marri as part of the team of referees for the final match of the 2026 World Cup, which brings together Argentina and Spain on Sunday evening at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.
Al Marri is in charge of the video assistant referee (VAR) in the final match, within the review room led by German referee Bastian Dankert, and also with Colombian Nicolas Gallo, Nicaraguan referee Tatiana Guzman, and Mexican Guillermo Pacheco.
As for the management of the match on the field, led by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic.
The selection of Al Marri as part of the crew for the most important match in the tournament is a new confirmation of the confidence that the Qatari refereeing cadres have on the international scene, after his career in a number of matches in the current edition of the tournament, including the match between the United States and Belgium in the round of 16, and the match between America and Paraguay.
It is noteworthy that Argentina reached the final after defeating England 2-1 in the semi-finals, while Spain qualified at the expense of France with two unanswered goals.
