The organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games announced the cancellation of swimming training scheduled for Tuesday morning due to poor water quality in the Seine River.
This is the fifth time that the organizers have taken this decision in order to protect the health of the athletes participating in the Olympics. The previous four times concerned the triathlon competition, where the men’s race was postponed for one day.
The organizers said in a statement that an assessment of the situation took place this morning between the Paris Municipality, the Paris 2024 Olympic Organizing Committee and the International Aquatics Federation.
This resulted in the cancellation of training, while a large number of athletes expressed their frustration due to the repeated cancellations.
The River Seine was deemed clean enough to stage Monday’s mixed triathlon after doubts over pollution and disease levels in the run-up.
The women’s 10km marathon is scheduled to take place early on Thursday, with the men’s race the following day.
