More than 1,200 emerging basketball talents from across Qatar gathered at Education City, affiliated with the Qatar Foundation, to participate in the player selection event that precedes the start of the third season of the American Junior Basketball League – Qatar and the American Junior Women’s Basketball League – Qatar.
Qatar Foundation is organizing this tournament in cooperation with the NBA, and with the support of the Qatar Basketball Association, at the Education City Student Center during the period from September 25 to November 7, 2026. The player selection event witnessed the participating teams being given the names of teams from the American NBA, in preparation for the start of the tournament. The tournament expanded this season to include three age categories: the under-12 category, the under-14 category, and the under-16 category, which will allow male and female players from about 80 teams the opportunity to compete and develop their basketball skills and experience an experience that simulates the atmosphere and system of the American NBA League. In this regard, Kholoud Al-Aali, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Programs at Qatar Foundation, said: “The continued growth of the American Junior Basketball League – Qatar and the American Junior Women’s Basketball League – Qatar reflects the growing passion for basketball among young people in the country, and the importance of providing opportunities that allow them to practice sports within a positive and supportive environment.”
