“Qatar has established its position as a leading global destination for those looking for exceptional experiences in art, culture and heritage. Based on Qatar National Vision 2030, we are proud to be a cultural center for one of the most important forums in the world, as we harness the arts to encourage dialogue, consolidate ties between cultures, and consolidate joint understanding. This vision embodies the essence of the Cultural Years Initiative, which since 2012 has succeeded in strengthening Qatar’s relations with partner countries around the world, and today it is proud to support the “Latino Americano” exhibition within its partnership for this cultural year with both Argentina and Chile.
The exhibition deals with a pivotal question: How can a set of images represent or capture the diversity that the entire continent abounds in? The exhibition presents a panoramic view of artistic creativity on the Latin continent, by displaying the holdings of the Malba Museum and Eduardo F. Costantini and Qatar Museums, as it includes works for a group of the most prominent artists from 1900 until today. The exhibition includes about 170 artworks for more than 100 artists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Paraguay, Mexico, Venezuela, and Uruguay, covering multiple fields that include drawing, photography, videos, sculptures, synthetic artworks, and archiving documentation.
For his part, Issa Al -Shirawi said: “This cooperation represents with the Malba Museum an exceptional opportunity to bring the Latin art and culture to the Arab Gulf region through an exhibition of this size, especially during the course of the cultural year, Qatar, Argentina and Chile. The exhibition highlights the role of Latin artists, from the pioneers of modernity to contemporary creators, in challenging the prevailing narratives and reformulating traditions and leaving their mark on global artistic movements. In Qatar Museums, we are keen to continue to review the history of global art from multiple angles, to deliver new stories and visions to our audiences from around the world.
