With the support of the State of Qatar and under the patronage of His Excellency President Ahmed Al -Shara, President of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Syrian government signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with an alliance of five international companies led by Europe Holding, to develop and expand Damascus International Airport, with a foreign investment valued at more than 4 billion US dollars.
The project represents one of the pillars of the national reconstruction and promotion of communication with the world and contributing to the stimulation of the economy, trade and tourism, and it is considered a detailed station within a series of major development projects that are implemented in vital sectors such as energy, reconstruction and infrastructure. This investment is one of the largest investments in the Syrian infrastructure in decades, and embodies the trend towards restoring Syria’s regional and international status.
This project is part of the package of strategic projects in which His Highness Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani directed the Emir of the State of Qatar, with the aim of supporting the Syrian economy recovery and consolidating a long -term partnership between the State of Qatar and the Syrian Arab Republic.
The implementation of this project is undertaken by an international alliance led by the UCC Concepts Investments LLC, and the coalition also includes the American company ASSETSTMENTS USA LLC and the Turkish Construction Company (Cengiz İnşaat), and Calion For Turkish Construction (Kalyon İnşaat), TAV TEPE AKFEN)
The signing ceremony took place in the capital, Damascus, in the presence of Mr. Tom Barak, the special envoy of the United States to Syria and representatives of the Qatari embassy in Syria, high -level official delegations and a number of diplomats, where the agreement was signed Turkish Taf. This investment aims to re -develop Damascus International Airport and turn it into an integrated regional center, capable of accommodating 31 million passengers annually when all its stages are completed, with public facilities at the highest global level. The project will be implemented according to the construction model – operation – transport (BOT), through five consecutive stages that start raising the capacity to 6 million passengers during the first year, then 16 million at the completion of the second stage, up to the full capacity of 31 million passengers annually when all stages are completed.
The airport will be built according to the finest international standards approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (IATA), to include up to 32 gates that include gates equipped with modern crossing bridges, an integrated system for air navigation services, in addition to a free and advanced market that includes a variety of international restaurants and high -end cafes, and the most prominent brands in the fashion world, to be one of the latest Airports and the most advanced in the region. The project also includes the development of the main road leading to the airport with a length of up to 50 km, in addition to financing of $ 250 million to buy up to 10 Airbus A320 aircraft for the Syrian airline, with the aim of strengthening the fleet and increasing the competitiveness of the national carrier.
