Qatari player Dana Khalifa won the girls’ singles and doubles titles in the fourth edition of the Qatar Asian Tennis Championship (under 14 years), which was hosted by the Qatar Tennis Federation on its courts, with the participation of about 100 male and female players.
Dana Khalifa won the singles competition title after winning the final match over her Kazakh counterpart, Sofia Churkina, in two unanswered sets, 6-2, 6-3.
In the girls’ doubles category, the Qatari national team player strengthened her tally of titles by claiming first place with her Lithuanian colleague Ona Kildisit, where in the final match they were able to overcome the Kazakh duo of Vlada Chakushina and Sofia Churkina in two unanswered sets, 6-1, 6-0.
In the boys’ singles competition, Indian player Hiresh Patel won the title in this category after winning the final confrontation over his Romanian counterpart, David Raducan, 6-0, 6-0.
Mr. Tariq Zainal, Secretary General of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel and Badminton Federation, said in a statement on the sidelines of the coronation ceremony: “We are very proud of the achievement made by our national team player Dana Khalifa by winning the singles and doubles titles in this tournament, which brought together an elite group of the best Asian male and female players in the category. Juniors, we look forward to seeing more of our players on regional and international podiums.”
He added that these results represent an additional success for Qatari tennis and an incentive to enhance the diligent work in order to bring our male and female players to the highest levels of professionalism, stressing that the federation will spare no effort in providing all forms of support to its national teams.
Zainal noted the importance of this tournament and its role in raising the level of tennis in Qatar and the continent of Asia, noting that the federation will continue to organize and host more tournaments in various age groups.
