A recent study revealed specialized neurons that tell you that you should stop eating at full. The discovered nerve cells can smell food, see it, feel it in the mouth and intestine, and explain all the intestinal hormones that are launched in response to eating. In the end, she takes advantage of all this information to make the decision, says her words and stopped eating.

The study was conducted by researchers from the “Irfing” medical center of the University of Colombia in New York, USA, and published on February 5 in “Cell” magazine, and wrote about “Eurekalert”.

Who forces you to stop eating?

Feeling fullness begins to infiltrate us at some point while eating, then we feel that we are really full and then we reach a point where we say this is enough. But how does the brain know that? How does it determine when our bodies get enough food?

Although scientists know about many neurons responsible for monitoring eating, these cells do not make the final decision to stop eating. Researchers in Colombia have discovered new neurons responsible for this, and they are located in a known brain – the region that connects the brain and spinal cord – but scientists have not been able to distinguish them before.

This discovery may help in reaching new treatments for obesity. Researchers have found these new cells by chance while analyzing the brain stem area using a new technology.

Unique cells

The researchers have invented a method by which to run or stop the effect of these cells using light, with the aim of knowing their function specifically, and by experimenting with laboratory mice, the researchers found that mice do not stop food only when activating these cells, but they become slower in eating them gradually.

“These neurons do not resemble any other neuron that participates in the regulation of satiety, so the work of other neurons in the brain is usually limited to sensing the food that is applied. In our mouth, or how to fill food for the stomach, or the nutrition that we get from the food, while the neurons that we found are different as they combine all these different signs together. “

The researchers found that neurons were inhibited by an appetite hormone, and it was activated by the GLP-1, a group of drugs is now common for obesity and diabetes.

“We believe it is a major starting starting point to understand what it means to feel full, how this happens, and how it is used to finish the meal, and we hope that it will be used to find new treatments for obesity in the future,” says Dr. Nico.
