An American study revealed that adding a touch of hot spices to the diet is an effective way to reduce the amount of food that a person consumes and thus reducing the calories he gets.
According to the study conducted by a research team from the University of Pennsylvania, American, the researchers found that hot peppers and similar spices affect the amount of food that the individual consumes in every meal. The study published by the scientific journal Food and Preference, specialized in food science, confirmed that marinated meals make a person reduce the amount of food he is eating and the calories he gets.
“We know that when a person eats slowly, he eats less food,” said researcher Beige Cannham, head of the study team.
The experiment included providing meals spinning in different degrees of hot pepper to a group of volunteers while measuring the amount of food that each volunteer consumes while maintaining the taste of the meal in general. And it shows the experience that increasing the amount of spicy spices affects the speed of eating the meal and reducing the amount of food and calories that each volunteer consumes.
Kaninham explained that the participants in the experiment were eating hot food at a slower pace in the sense that they were keeping food in their mouths for a longer period, which helps to give a feeling of fullness and satiety, which causes them to eat less food.
Researcher John Hayes, Professor of Nutrition Sciences and one of the study participants, stressed that these results “indicate the possibility of using hot pepper as a strategy to reduce the problem of excessive food consumption.”
