The Federal Center for Health Awareness in Germany has warned that smoking increases the risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The center explained that toxins – which enter the lungs during smoking – cause permanent inflammation, which leads to narrowing of the airways, and then the patient suffers from shortness of breath, shortness of breath, and a cough accompanied by phlegm.

The alveoli also become more and more damaged over time, which means the body’s supply of oxygen deteriorates. So muscle loss and cardiovascular disease are often associated with COPD.

A doctor should be consulted immediately after noticing symptoms of serious chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Although this disease cannot be cured, its development can be slowed through medications that are inhaled to expand the bronchi, in addition to quitting smoking.

It is noteworthy that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a group of diseases that affect the lungs and cause gradual obstruction of the airways, making breathing difficult.
Smoking is at the forefront of the causes that lead to this disease, as the harmful chemicals found in cigarette smoke irritate and damage the bronchial tubes and alveoli in the long term.

Although there is no cure for COPD, quitting smoking is the first and most important step to reducing the deterioration of health and improving the quality of life.
Inhaled medications to expand the bronchi can help relieve symptoms, but quitting smoking is the only treatment that can stop the progression of the disease.
