Photo and video sharing platform Snapchat has announced its biggest redesign of its app in years, reducing the number of interface sections from five to just three, to include: a section for messages and stories, a section for the camera, and another for full-screen video content similar to the interface of the short video sharing platform TikTok.
The platform revealed the new design, called “Simple Snapchat,” during Snapchat’s annual Partner Summit in Los Angeles, USA.
Under the new design, the platform will showcase full-screen videos from publishers, creators, and media content from other partners, and will roll it out gradually to gauge feedback.
“This design makes Stories more like conversations, simplifies content discovery, and gives users direct access to the camera to express themselves,” said Evan Spiegel, Snapchat CEO.
The platform aims to make Snapchat easier and more engaging to watch videos, when users usually go to TikTok or Instagram to watch them. It hopes that this design will improve the work experience for content creators, who publish more than a billion pieces of content monthly on the app, and make money through the revenue-sharing program.
Meanwhile, the company announced the launch of a new AI-powered lens that allows users to see how they might look in old age in an exciting and interesting experience, and added improvements to the “Memories” section to enable users to retrieve their special moments from the past in more innovative ways.
