A major study in the United States revealed that the use of older women recovered from breast cancer is estrogen paint to relieve symptoms of menopause completely safe, and even contributes to prolonging their recovery.

The authors of the study indicated during a meeting of the American Association of Clinical Oncology that women who recover from breast cancer after menopause, and used estrogen paints were less likely to return to the disease, develop or die because of it, and not an increased risk due to its use as it was believed.

Vaginal estrogen paint helps relieve menopause symptoms such as vaginal dryness or a feeling of discomfort or pain during the marital relationship, but the recovered from breast cancer often avoids using it for fear of stimulating cancer cells in the breast that depends on hormones for growth.

The researchers reviewed the records of a national database that includes about 18620 recovery from breast cancer, aged 65 years and more, and who were diagnosed with the disease between 2010 and 2017, and found that only 800 patients used vaginal estrogen paint.

After taking into account factors such as race, cancer and treatments used, the researchers noted a statistically significant significance in the average age of patients who used estrogen paints.

The results showed that the paint uses were less likely to die due to the disease by 47%, and 44% less for death for any other reason compared to women who did not use it.

Rather, the study indicates that patients whose tumors grow due to hormones decrease the risk of their deaths for any reason 38% for using estrogen paint. The results also showed that the users of paint with breast cancer, which are affected by hormones, were less likely to die due to the disease, but this difference did not have a statistical indication.

“These results contribute to a growing shift in contemporary understanding, as hormonal therapy has nothing to do with increasing the risk of public death or death due to breast cancer, which carries important indications of ways of treatment and medical practices,” the researchers said.
