A recent study revealed that Persistment (POPS) is associated with long -term high blood pressure in adolescents who underwent obesity treatment.

Fixed organic pollutants are toxic industrial chemicals that often enter the body through the foods that are contaminated and stored in body fat.

The researchers also identified a possible biological path that explains the relationship between fixed organic pollutants and changing blood pressure levels.

The study was conducted by researchers from the Kik College of Medicine at the University of Southern California, and published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society for Environmental Science and Technology on February 24, and was written by Yorik Alrt.

Fixed organic pollutants

Fixed organic pollutants negatively affect human health and the environment around the world, and given the possibility of their transmission through wind and water, most of the fixed organic pollutants generated in one country can affect people and wildlife in other countries.

These pollutants remain long periods in the environment, and can accumulate and move from one type to another through the food chain.

Studies have linked the exposure to fixed organic pollutants to the occurrence of diseases or distortions in a number of living organisms such as fish and birds. As for humans, they have been associated with negative health effects on reproductive health, growth, behavior, nervous system, endocrine and immune system.

People are mainly exposed to fixed organic pollutants through contaminated foods, and the least exposure methods include drinking polluted water and direct communication with chemicals.

Obesity and blood pressure surgery

Obesity surgery includes changes to the digestive system to help lose weight, and these procedures can help treat many metabolic diseases associated with obesity and prevention, including diabetes, fatty liver disease and high blood pressure.

But weight loss surgery is not a quick and easy solution, as it requires pre -preparation and long -term changes in the lifestyle after that to ensure its success.

“Although obesity surgery is an effective treatment for obesity, the improvement of heart health and metabolism in the body, it also liberates fixed organic pollutants stored in fat and releases them in the bloodstream,” says Shodi that the researcher participating in the study is from the Population and Public Health Department at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southern California.

“Fixed organic pollutants are an emerging risk factor for high blood pressure, and our study has provided us with a unique opportunity to assess the relationship between exposure to them and high blood pressure, and so far only few studies have discussed how exposure to these pollutants in the fatty tissues at the level of blood pressure, as the mechanisms behind this relationship were unclear.”

How does fixed organic matter keep blood pressure high?

The study, which was conducted by the researchers, included data from 57 teenagers who underwent obesity surgery.

“We have measured the level of fixed organic pollutants stored in the fatty tissues before surgery, after which we have evaluated its effect on blood pressure on 3 periods: at the beginning of the study, after 6 months, and after 5 years of surgery,” said Shui, commenting on the study.

During the research, fixed organic pollutants were linked to systolic high blood pressure after 5 years of obesity surgery.

In addition, the researchers studied metabolism to understand the mechanisms behind the effect of these pollutants in the fatty tissues on changing blood pressure levels.

The researchers’ analysis revealed that a single specific path participating in the production of prostaglandins – one of the substances that participate in controlling body blood pressure – was essential in affecting the long -term blood pressure changes, as the study found that fixed organic materials modified the paths of prostaglandins, which contributed to disorders of regulating blood pressure.
