Researchers from the United States and China found that taking an average dose of 3,320 international units of vitamin D daily, or about 83 micrograms, was associated with several important cardiac and metabolic benefits.

According to the study, this daily dose is associated with lower blood pressure, total cholesterol, insulin and blood glucose during fasting.

According to the Medical News Today website, this discovery comes from a new study in which researchers reviewed 99 trials from all over the world, to investigate the benefits of this vitamin on heart health and metabolism.

The study was conducted by researchers from Columbia, Brown, and Beijing Universities. The experiments included 17,656 participants, and were conducted among widely varying population groups in different global locations.

The research found that the greatest benefit from vitamin D supplements was achieved by those who had a deficiency in this vitamin and had a significant weight gain.

Although the scientific reason why vitamin D is linked to these benefits is not known, these results join a group of benefits of this vitamin for heart health confirmed by research, in addition to its known benefits for bones and muscles.
