The Ministry of Public Health opened, yesterday, Sunday, the eleventh Qatari week conference for patient safety, which it organizes under the slogan “Distinguished Welfare 360 … Enhancing safety through systematic change.”
More than 3 thousand specialists from the Ministry of Public Health, health sector institutions, academics and relevant partners will participate in the conference, and a group of local and international experts will speak at the conference.
Dr. Ghanem Ali Al -Mannai, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Care Affairs in the Ministry of Public Health, stressed that the conference embodies the joint commitment to enhance the concept of quality and safety in the entire health system, and to serve the achievement of health strategies aimed at improving the health and well -being of our society, and excellence in providing services and patient experiences.
He said in the opening speech that the participation of a distinguished group of experts and specialists in this conference confirms the responsibility of the joint ministry and its full keenness to provide the highest levels of safety and quality through cooperation and effective partnership from all, from officials, policy makers and workers in the health care sector in addition to the important role of patients and their families.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Health is working through its strategic approach “Health in all policies”, to ensure concerted efforts in all sectors to improve the health of society.
He also clarified that the Qatari Patient Safety Week slogan this year (360 -degree special care: enhancing safety through systematic change) confirms the keenness of the Ministry of Public Health and its partners to adopt the totalitarian approach to improving the quality of health care and patient safety, with a focus on innovation, and the employment of the latest and best technologies in health care, in order to ensure better health for all.
Inspiring initiative
He indicated that the great momentum, which is enjoyed by the Qatari week of patient safety since its launch in 2014, confirms the commitment of all partners within this inspiring initiative to achieve excellence in providing safe and high -quality health care.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Health Care Affairs in the Ministry of Public Health affirmed the Ministry’s keenness to prepare and implement national policies and strategies for health care quality and patient safety, and this includes pharmaceutical safety, reporting medical errors, infection prevention and combating them, according to international best practices, indicating that the Ministry leads the national plan to combat anti -microbial resistance, and works to enhance awareness and build capacity through training programs And national events, which contributes to enhancing the quality and safety of health services for all members of society.
For his part, Professor Jason Leach, a first colleague at the Institute of Health Care Improvement in the United States of America, said that “the health system in the State of Qatar is one of the world’s leading systems in its efforts to provide safe and effective care for the population,” noting that there is a lot that can be learned from the Qatari experience that is always open to international experiences to benefit from it.
He pointed to the importance of working on 4 main transformations to build health systems capable of adapting to the current changes represented in digital transformation, community health, teaching health cadres, and promoting sympathy to provide care, reviewing models from Scotland and a number of other countries.
The conference aims to enhance and spread a culture of health care and patient safety at the national level, by stimulating dialogue between leaders and decision makers in the health field to develop safety policies and legislation, raising awareness of the importance of care quality and patient safety, enhancing communication between patients, care and decision makers, exchange of experiences and best practices with local, regional and international experts.
Community participation
The conference also aims to discuss the current challenges, propose innovative and applicable solutions, enhance community participation and health empowerment of patients, spreading a culture of learning from errors and accidents, and supporting and encouraging scientific research in this field.
The conference reviews through the workshops and specialized sessions many important axes, the most prominent of which are the systematic development strategies for quality and safety systems, leadership and governance in quality and patient safety, partnership with patients and care providers, digital solutions and innovation in quality improvement, learning from accidents and continuous improvement, with the participation of local, regional and international speakers, and distinguished participation from Patients.
Part of the conference has been allocated to discuss the importance of the safety and quality of health care with fragile environments affected by disputes and at risk, as this comes within the framework of the commitment of the State of Qatar to global health issues, especially since the East Mediterranean Region includes countries that suffer from such conditions.
The Qatari Patient Safety Week is an annual effectiveness at the national level launched by the Ministry of Public Health, with the aim of spreading the concept of health care quality and patient safety among workers in health care institutions in various categories and users, and enhancing sustainable cooperation between the ministry, health care providers and patients to ensure safer health care in the State of Qatar.
