The Municipality concludes the activities of Qatar Sustainability Week today

Today, the Ministry of Municipality concludes its activities on the occasion of Qatar Sustainability Week 2024, which was launched last Monday at Landmark Mall. The Ministry organized many activities and events related to sustainability, with the aim of strengthening the efforts of the State of Qatar to achieve the global sustainability goals set in the Qatar National Vision 2030. The activities included entertainment competitions, public awareness events, and activities. And games for children. An official source at the Ministry said that the event witnessed a large turnout by visitors and interaction with the various activities, especially the competition that asks questions related to sustainability, and identifies the importance of the event and its objectives. Such as enhancing awareness of the importance of sustainability. The source confirmed that participants in the competitions receive valuable prizes from the team responsible for the event. For its part, the Municipality of Al Khor and Al Dhakhira, in cooperation with the Qatar Leadership Academy, organized a tree planting campaign on the occasion of Sustainability Week, as part of the initiative to plant ten million trees. With the aim of enhancing vegetation cover and supporting environmental sustainability efforts, municipalities have achieved outstanding achievements in the field of sustainable development, which resulted in (6) Qatari cities obtaining membership in the UNESCO Learning Cities Network, as a result of their distinguished efforts in spreading the concepts of sustainability and partnership with community institutions, which confirms the State of Qatar’s approach to Distinctive policies in achieving sustainable development on its territory and preserving the Qatari environment with all its components. The city of Al Wakrah won the “UNESCO Cities of Learning Award for the year 2021,” among 10 cities around the world for achieving outstanding achievements in the field of lifelong learning, out of 60 cities that competed to win the prestigious educational award. Al Wakrah won this international award – according to what was announced by “Al Wakrah.” The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) – due to the city making lifelong learning a priority in its sustainability plan, with a focus on vulnerable groups in society. The city of Al Daayen won the Arab Socially Responsible City Award for the year 2023, after being selected by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility, in recognition of its efforts in establishing distinguished practices in achieving social responsibility and sustainable development. In February 2023, the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Food Security Department, and the “Our Legacy” Centre, a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, agreed to launch initiatives aimed at achieving sustainability in the State of Qatar.
