The Qatari youth handball team will meet its Chinese counterpart tomorrow, Thursday, in the round to determine the ninth to thirteenth places in the 18th Asian Youth Handball Championship, currently being held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and continuing until June 25, qualifying for the 2025 World Championship in Poland.
The Qatari team will play three more matches in this round, as it will play against Hong Kong the day after tomorrow (Friday), and against India next Saturday, and will conclude its matches by facing Chinese Taipei on Tuesday.
The Qatari team lost its chance to advance to the main round after coming in third in Group 4 of the group stage, as it tied in its first match with its Japanese counterpart with a score of 25/25, while it lost the second match to the Korean team with a score of 24/33, and won the third match against the Chinese Taipei team with a score of 29/26.
The eight teams that qualified for the main round were divided into two groups. The first group includes the teams of Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and South Korea, while the second group includes the teams of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Oman and Japan. The first and second teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, in addition to qualifying directly for the 2025 World Cup.
It is noteworthy that the Qatari national team won the Asian Youth Handball Championship title five times in 1994, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016.
