The administration of US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday its intention to prohibit the use of all industrial colors currently allowed in food products in the United States, in a measure supported by health experts and has a rare political consensus.

The new US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Marti McCari announced at a press conference that the administration “actually eliminates all oil -derived foodstuffs in the United States.”

Under this procedure, eight types of industrial colors, all of which are derived from oil and are probably attributed to health harms, gradually by the end of 2026.

“Over the past fifty years, American children have been increasingly living in a toxic environment full of industrial chemicals,” Makari said, citing studies linking these added substances to hyperactivity, diabetes and even cancer.

This important declaration comes after the pre -democratic administration in mid -January is prohibited by another industrial food color called “Red 3” (“Red 3” in North America and “E127” E127 in Europe. This added material has been known for more than 30 years, as it causes cancer in animals.

Among the aforementioned colors, the colors of “Red 40” (known as “E129” E129 in Europe), “Yello 5” (E 102 – E102) and “Yelo 6” (E 110 – E110) are the most used in the food industry, explained by Peter Laurie, head of the Science Center in the Public Authority (CSPI), to Agence France Presse.

These colors are used in thousands of different food products, such as sweets, grains, sauces and drinks.

However, Lori explained that “any of them does not carry any nutritional value. It is used only to mislead, to make foods look more red or blue or to enhance the taste of fruit in it or make it more attractive than they are in reality,” for commercial purposes.
