Some people feel pain in the upper abdomen after eating, such as pressure and cramps, in addition to a feeling of bloating, fullness, and nausea. What are the causes?
To answer this question, the German Society for Gastroenterology and Metabolism said that upper abdominal pain after eating has many causes, some of which are simple and some of which are serious.
Simple reasons
The association explained that simple causes include eating very fatty foods, foods very rich in carbohydrates, or foods that cause bloating, such as cabbage, garlic, onions, or spicy foods.
In this case, problems can be faced by modifying the diet, as fatty, rich or spicy foods should be avoided and foods that are gentle on the stomach and intestines should be eaten. You should also eat several small meals instead of 3 large meals, taking into account the abundance of foods rich in dietary fiber, such as grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables.
Drinking caraway, anise, or fennel tea helps relieve problems, as they have an antispasmodic effect and stimulate the digestion process.
Practicing physical activity after eating helps alleviate these health problems.
Serious diseases
If these measures do not succeed in confronting the problem, then a doctor should be consulted, as it may indicate a serious disease such as inflammation of the stomach lining, stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, heartburn (reflux), or pancreatitis.
In the worst cases, upper abdominal pain after eating may indicate heart disease, such as angina, or cancer, such as stomach cancer or esophageal cancer.
