The skin needs night care creams that differ from day care creams. What is the reason for this? How can I take care of the skin at night in a proper way?
To answer these questions, German dermatologist Marion Morse-Karpe said that skin metabolism varies greatly throughout the day. During the day, the skin is mainly exposed to external influences such as ultraviolet rays, dirt, and cold, and needs protection and hydration.
Skin rejuvenation
At night, regeneration is the focus of attention, as cells divide more quickly, the skin absorbs more active substances, and repairs minor damage that occurs during the day.
A well-designed night cream can help in this process, provided that the skin is cleaned well beforehand. If there is dirt or makeup residue on the skin, moisture or active substances will not be able to penetrate it.
Not all skin types need the same care. Dry or mature skin often benefits from formulas richer in oils, while young or normal skin usually needs light, moisturizing creams.
In general, light creams, which contain active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or urea for dry skin, should be used for night care, in order to rejuvenate, nourish and moisturize the skin for fresh skin in the morning.
Harmful substances
On the other hand, Oko Test magazine warned that some night creams contain harmful substances such as chlorhexidine digluconate, a preservative that is considered a potential trigger for contact allergies.
Some products also contain salicylic acid, a substance often used in spot-prone skin care products and classified as reproductive harm in the European Union.
