0.07% decrease in the consumer price index

The National Planning Council issued the Consumer Price Index for June 2024, and the index reached 107.52 points, recording a slight decrease of 0.07% compared to the previous month, May 2024, and an increase of 0.98% compared to the corresponding month (June) of 2023.
When comparing the main components of the index for June 2024 with the previous month, May 2024 (monthly change), it becomes clear that there is a decrease in five groups, an increase in five others, and stability in the number in two groups.
The decrease occurred in the food and beverages group by 3.12%, followed by the clothing and footwear group by 0.86%, the transportation group by 0.61%, the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 0.47%, and the other goods and services group by 0.18%. As for the increase, it occurred in the communications group by 9.29%, followed by the entertainment and culture group by 1.24%, the restaurants and hotels group by 0.13%, the furniture and household appliances group by 0.07%, and a slight relative increase close to stability in the education group by 0.04%, while no change occurred in the tobacco and health groups.
When comparing June 2024 with the corresponding month in 2023 (annual change), it was found that there was an increase in the general index by 0.98%, which resulted from the increase in five groups: the entertainment and culture group by 14.09%, the education group by 3.42%, the other goods and services group by 2.83%, the clothing and footwear group by 0.98%, and the food and beverages group by 0.09%.
The indices of the rest of the basket groups showed a decrease, as the communications group recorded a decrease of 4.62%, followed by the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 3.10%, the restaurants and hotels group by 1.79%, the health group by 1.77%, the furniture and home appliances group by 1.71%, and the transportation group by 0.32%, while there was no change in the tobacco group.
When calculating the consumer price index for June 2024, after excluding the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group, it reached 111.04 points, recording a stability of 0.02% compared to the previous month (May 2024), and an increase of 1.95% compared to the corresponding month in 2023.
