7.9% increase year-on-year… 13.7 million passengers on Hamad International in the third quarter

Hamad International Airport announced that it will receive more than 13.7 million passengers during the third quarter of 2024, recording a growth of 7.9 percent compared to the same period last year. Point-to-point traffic also witnessed a growth of 11.7 percent, which contributed to enhancing the airport’s overall performance.
The airport stated in a statement that the airport’s record performance during the third quarter was driven by strong demand for air travel, as July was the airport’s busiest month ever, receiving 4,742,068 passengers, followed by 4,717,885 passengers in August and 4,246,742 passengers in September.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain topped the list of countries that witnessed significant growth in the movement of passenger destinations in the Middle East region, while in Europe came Spain, the United Kingdom and Germany. The Chinese market also witnessed a growth of more than 43 percent in passenger traffic compared to the previous year.

Aircraft movement
Hamad International Airport recorded a growth in aircraft movements, which reached 71,425 movements during the third quarter of 2024, an increase of 6.2% over the same period of the previous year. This included 24,179 takeoffs and landings in July, 24,329 in August, and 22,917 in September. This strong performance highlights the airport’s growing role as a global aviation hub, handling the increase in air traffic efficiently and accurately.

Handling of goods and bags
Hamad International Airport handled 670,643 tons of cargo during the third quarter of 2024, an increase of 13.5 percent compared to the third quarter of last year 2023. The volume of goods handled was constant throughout the months of this quarter, as 221,398 tons were handled in July, and 219,525 tons in August, and 229,719 tons in September.
This growth strengthens the airport’s position as a major freight hub in the region and supports global trade and supply chains. In addition, more than 11 million bags were handled through Hamad International Airport during the third quarter of 2024, an increase of 8.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
