The results of a recent study showed that eating beet juice helps to lower blood pressure in the elderly, thanks to the important “nitrate” to regulate blood pressure.

In this study, conducted by the British University of Exter, 39 people under the age of 30 and 36 people between the ages of 60 and 70 years have taken a beet juice that contains nitrate and a fake version (Plassibo) of juice without nitrate for two weeks per age group.

Oral bacteria

The researchers concluded that eating juice containing nitrate is not significantly not the formation of oral bacteria, albeit in different ways in both ages: the elderly has decreased bacteria “Previtylla”, while bacteria have increased beneficial to health such as “Nigeria”.

Their blood pressure, whose average was higher than the younger participants, has also decreased, while this effect was not observed with the intake of imaginary drug juice.

The study concluded that foods rich in nitrate change the mouth of the mouth in a way that may reduce infections and reduce blood pressure in the elderly.

Nitric oxide

The researchers pointed out that nitrates are of great importance to health; Bacteria useful for health converts them into nitric oxide, which is necessary for the blood vessel function, and thus to regulate blood pressure.

Besides beets, vegetables rich in nitrate are spinach, watercress, fennel, celery and cabbage.
